Abstract of the lecture: The workshop attendees will become familiar with basic concepts of development for mobile phones with the Android operating system when developing a simple application. From simple “Hello World”, we move on to work with SMSs at which you can grasp several aspects of Android architecture at once. We will learn how to handle the application life cycle. Furthermore, we will talk about and demonstrate how to get applications ready for different mobile phones and how to verify “look” of application on more devices even if you do not have a drawer full of Nexuses, Milestones, Magics, G1s or Herons.

 

Entrance requirements: Before the workshop, you should prepare the Eclipse IDE on your laptop. Follow the Quick Start instructions on Android Developer page. In step 4, install at least the following:

  • Android SDK Tools
  • SDK Platform Android 1.6, API 4
  • SDK Platform Android 2.1,, API 7
  • Google APIs by Google Inc., Android API 4
  • Google APIs by Google Inc., Android API 7

You can install also other parts (Documentation, Samples, …) if you want. Basic knowledge of the Eclipse IDE is plus for the workshop.

 

Short CV of Pavel Petřek: Pavel Petřek is an enthusiastic developer on Android and Blackberry mobile platforms. He develops also for the Internet (Java EE, Grails, Google technologies). At various occasions, he has spoken about the Android platform since its very beginning. He has worked as a developer, software engineer, or software architect ever, at present time in his own company Inmite s.r.o., which has, besides development of first-class applications, a great task: “Make people in your neighbourhood happier.”
