Department of Theoretical Computer Science focuses on basic research in the area of automata theory, formal languages, grammars, compilers, data compression, computational intelligence, stringology (string processing algorithms), and the emerging field of arbology (tree processing algorithms). Teaching in the Bachelor Informatics programme
Department of Theoretical Computer Science teaches the following mandatory mathematics modules: Mathematical Logic (BIE-MLO), Elements of Discrete Mathematics (BIE-ZDM) and Probability and Statistics (BIE-PST). The department also teaches the mandatory Automata and Grammars module (BIE-AAG) and the related Programming Languages and Compilers module (BIE-PJP). The department teaches the following modules of the Computer Science specialization that deepen students' specialist knowledge and prepare them for the follow-up master programme: Efficient Algorithms (BIE-EFA), Graph Algorithms and Complexity Theory (BIE-GRA), Efficient Implementation of Algorithms (BIE-EIA), and Data Mining (BIE-VZD).
